Why You Should Learn About Money

Updated: Feb 3, 2025

Financial literacy is essential to improving your financial future. Having the knowledge and skills to manage money effectively, including investing, saving, budgeting, and understanding credit and debt can majorly improve your quality of life.

Think of it like learning to drive a car--without the knowledge of how to steer, accelerate, and brake, it’s impossible to reach your destination. People who build their confidence and knowledge of money experience less financial-related anxiety.

In our future blogs and videos we plan to cover investing, saving, debt management, budgeting, credit, taxes, and more. We have a few basic graphics highlighting these topics below along with some key points.

There are so many different parts of investing and we will break these down in future blogs. The only thing you cannot buy is time, so investing early is key.

Building an emergency fund or opening a high-yield savings account are only two examples of how to save but there are various ways to set aside your money. The goal with saving is to plan for future goals.

Companies often use debt to their advantage and individuals can as well. Debt management involves avoiding bad, unhelpful debt and pay off debt more efficiently.

Budgeting is an important part of personal finance because it helps avoid overspending. Ideally, budgets include tracking expenses and income for a set period of time.

Credit serves an essential purpose because establishing a good credit history and improving your credit score can create more borrowing power in the future.

There are so many moving parts in personal finance. It can be overwhelming! Luckily, you're not expected to learn everything overnight. Start small with free resources (there are a lot out there). We even have some listed here. If there are topics you'd like us to cover in the future please feel free to comment.

We are conducting a financial literacy survey to see what topics people would like to learn about and which topics respondents already feel confident about. The survey only takes around 5-10 minutes to complete. You can take the survey here.

If you'd like to see us discuss this topic, we recently posted our first YouTube video, "Why You Should Learn About Money." You can watch it here.
